Logan’s Midwest Water Safety

Logan’s Midwest Water Safety

About Us

Logan was my very rambunctious 4-year-old son. He and his brother had been in and around water since infancy. They were both adept in the water. He had earned pool time after having a five-star day at preschool. This was the first time Logan and seven-year-old brother Reece were left in the care of the nanny during pool time. I was away from the house for less than 30 minutes. Upon my return I found my seven-year-old son distraught on the driveway. He cried out that Logan wasn’t breathing. Logan had been pulled out of the water, but the nanny had not started CPR. It is unknown how long Logan had been in the water. I began CPR before EMS arrived; Logan was taken to a local emergency department and was then life-flighted to Omaha Children’s Hospital. Within 24 hours he was found to have suffered brain death and removed from life support. He gave hope to others through organ donation.

Drowning

DROWNING does not look like “drowning”.

It is Silent, it is Fast!
There is no splashing, there is no yelling, there is no waving.

Education

Many families are not aware that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-
4. We would like to share with families and to educate them about drowning, so their child
doesn’t become a victim.

Supervision

Inadequate supervision is a leading factor in childhood drownings. Children should
always be closely supervised when they are near water, even if it’s just a bathtub or a shallow
kiddie pool.

Water Safety Education

Teaching children about water safety from an early age can help them understand the dangers and how to stay safe around water.

Know The 5 Layers Of Protection

Prevent The Tragedy Of Drowning By Implementing The 5 Layers Of Protection.

Life Jackets

Life Jackets When Appropriate

U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) tested and approved life jackets should be worn by everyone, when in or around open/natural bodies of water, and when boating. Life jackets should be sized appropriately for the wearer.  When other layers of protection may break down, life jackets can help prevent unintentional drowning.
